Seam Line Removal

Hello Gunpla Meisters! Here's a tutorial covering the basics on pro-modelling, Seam Line Removal. On any Plamo competition, this is a requirement and ignoring this will pretty much make you lose alot of points. Some modellers tend to forget this technique and I hope you don't if you're ever planning on joining a Plamo competition. This technique also makes your Gunpla look less of a toy and more of a machine especially upon painting.

But what are Seam Lines anyway?
Simply put, Seam Lines are the visible gap between two parts when pieced together. Here's one on my scrap HG Heavy Arms Custom.

To take care of these pesky Seam Lines, we're going to need the help of this fellow, the Tamiya Cement. What this does is it melts your plastic to not only adhere your Gunpla's parts together but bind them into one whole piece.

Let's start then! First thing we need to do is to disassemble the part we've previously assembled. If you've read my previous post, I use a guitar pick to disassemble my Gunpla. You can view the tutorial HERE.

Here it is disassembled.

Now take your Tamiya Cement and put some on the gap where we'll be removing the Seam Lines. Make sure you put some on the other Part as well.

After that, firmly squeeze them together.

If you'd like, you can add more to make sure that it's been properly covered.

Now we need to let it dry for at least 1-2 hours. While letting the cement to dry, use a binder clip to help let it stick together.

-Moments later-
It is now dry and ready to be cleaned!

First, we need to remove the excess cement. Using your Hobby Knife, scrape off the extra cement from the Part

Next, take your Metal Files or Sandpaper and proceed with Progressive Sanding (starting from 600 grit up to 1500 or 2000 grit then clean).

And once you've cleaned it, it looks nice now!

And that's all for this tutorial! Once again thank you for reading this tutorial, stay tuned for more tutorials to come and Happy Building :D
